Introduction

 


Hello everyone, and welcome to my Wine Blog! My name is Dan Wade although many of my friends call me D. Wade (like the Miami Heat legend). 

My personal history with wine is quite short since I really did not begin to drink wine at all until I had gotten to college. Growing up, I would occasionally take a sip of something my parents gave me at the dinner table but those were typically red wines and were quite dry (not appealing to a young kid). Once I had reached college, I was able to try some of the classic boxed wine, Franzia and ...... I wasn't very impressed, to put it nicely. Later on, some of my closest friends began choosing wine as their drink of choice which led me to begin exploring. At that point in time, wine to me was a drink that many wealthy or highlife people enjoyed and talked about in a ridiculous way. I am sure many of you are familiar with the news reports of some big time Somalis being unable to differentiate between cheap and expensive wines. I was aware of all of the nonsense about wine and had a perception that there was a lot of misinformation out there. Plus the wines that I had tried so far were not to my liking.

My friends really began to change my perception of wine as I got older and the pandemic began to take hold. My roommates would come home with a sparkling wine or a table red wine to have in the house which eventually led to me trying more wine. I immediately took a liking to sparkling wine for a number of reasons, one of which was how fun it was to drink! To me there is just something cool about being able to pop open a bottle of Champaign or another sparkling wine, to celebrate an accomplishment. The perception I have of sparkling wine is that it is meant to be a special drink to enjoy with company. Sparkling wine is exciting, flashy and tastes pretty good too!

By 2022, I think of myself as a beginner in my wine drinking journey, but I am very excited. I have tried most of the main types of wine by now, however I realize there are many more areas to explore. One of the other types of wine I really like is Rose because I like the sweet taste and know that it is always a safe bet when I go to drink wine at a fancy place with my friends.

Red & White wine I am not very familiar with at all and the minimal times I have tried those wines I have not always enjoyed them. However, I will say that the dry side of wine is very interesting to me and I wish to learn more about the different types of Red & White wine so that I can find ones that I like and learn the proper way to drink them.

I can't wait to keep you updated on my wine journey and share some of my reviews and thoughts with you all!

Hello and welcome back to my wine blog! Last week I tried a $10 Chianti red wine by Giulio Straccali made from 90% Sangiovese 10% Canaiolo and Merlot that I got from the Vintage Cellar. The wine was from 2018 and was made in Tuscany Italy. According to a drizly.com review of the wine, this wine is elegant, persistent, well-structured, firm, and polished. Aromas should have been ripe cherry and violet. They also specified that this wine is best served at room temperature. When I tried the Chianti, I picked up a black tea aroma (pg.31), with a hint of butter (pg.31). Upond tasting the wine, I picked up black fruit, specifically black cherry (pg. 31) as well as a gooseberry taste (pg.31). Overall, I felt like this wine was about a medium tannic. Another important factor was that I let this wine sit out over night with some oxygen to get inside. Wine Tasting- Confetti Pink Moscato- 2/17/2022

  Wine Tasting! Hello and Welcome back to D. Wade's Wine Blog. Last night I had the opportunity to go to one of the finest establishments in all of the Blacksburg/Christiansburg area.... Olive Garden!! I went with a bunch of friends, some of whom are also taking this course.  The wine that we all decided to try was a Pink Moscato by Confetti that was $15. The wine was from Trentino Italy with a vintage year that was undisclosed. Since Moscato is made from Muscat Blanc grapes, I knew the flavor was going to have some sweetness to it.   The wine review on drizly.com states that this wine is supposed to have scents of strawberry, raspberry and peach. The review also mentioned that the wine would be creamy, well-balanced, sweet with an additional hint of citrus. When I tried the Confetti Pink Moscato, I first picked up fruity smells with a bit of peach to be more specific.
